BECON MEETING MINUTES BECON MEETING – MARCH 20, 2002

The NIH’s Bioengineering Consortium (BECON) met from 3 to 5 PM on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 in Room 151 of Building 1 on the NIH Main Campus. BRP CD’s for January 24 Deadline (Mollie Sourwine) – CDs containing BRP applications from the January 24 receipt date were distributed at the meeting. Status of BECON 2002 Sensors Symposium (Joan Harmon and Maren Laughlin) - Registration and poster abstract submission are now open for the BECON 2002 Symposium at http://www.becon.nih.gov/symposium2002.htm. The deadline for poster abstracts is April 15. A current agenda for the symposium is also available on the above website. Ads for the symposium have been run in Science and the New England Journal of Medicine BRP Grantee Meeting (Mollie Sourwine) – The Second Annual BRP Grantee Meeting will be held on March 25-26 at the Bethesda Hyatt. This year’s program will include 5-minute grantee presentations, a panel discussion on commercialization, a panel discussion on grant policy and review, and breakout discussions on training, technology transfer and NIH policy. A website contain grantee presentations and progress summaries, as well as speaker presentations will be made available after the meeting. BRG Review Template (Bill Heetderks) – A cover sheet that will be attached to all BRG applications was distributed and discussed. The cover sheet will be sent to the CSR for use in the next round of reviews. K25 PA Revision (Mike Huerta) – A revised version of the K25 Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award announcement was discussed. The announcement will be placed in the ENS system for final comment and in the very near future.
Inquires from Potential Applicants (Jeff Schloss) – BECON should continue to help direct applicants to the institute or center that would be most appropriate for their work.
Next BECON Meeting – The April BECON meeting is scheduled for Wednesday April 17, from 3 to 5 PM in room 151 in Building l on the NIH Main Campus. BECON members should transmit suggestions for agenda items to Mollie Sourwine or Dick Swaja. |
