BECON MEETING MINUTES BECON MEETING – September 15, 2004 Minutes The NIH Bioengineering Consortium (BECON) met from 3 to 4:30 PM on Wednesday, September 15, in Room 7111 of the Rockledge Two Building in Bethesda Maryland . The following text is the minutes of this meeting. BRP Evaluation Committee - Results of a BECON Subcommittee evaluation nof the BRP program were presented and discussed. BRP Percentiling - Percentiling of BRP applications was discussed. Team Science Subcommittee – The subcommittee hasn't met since last BECON meeting but is scheduled to meet soon. Definitions were provided to RBM and they are having a public discussion of them on Monday (9/20) at the FDP meeting. NIH Implementation of Co-PIs - The team is exploring various facts and meets next week. Implementation is probably a year away. It's not a question of whether, but when it will be implemented. Nanotechnology Activities - 1. There was a review of the white papers (applications) in response to the Nanomedicine Roadmap Initiative was conducted on September 2 with participation of the Roadmap Implementation Working Group and a group of outside consultants (university scientists and one from a federal lab). . 2. The NCI launched a cancer nanotechnology program on September 13. 3. A workshop was held September 8-10 at the National Academy at which outside consultants from a wide crosscut of science, social sciences, technology and industry developed an overarching plan for the next five years of the National Nanotechnology Initiative. Future Symposia - The BECON Symposium Subcommittee will meet in the near future to develop a plan for the next BECON symposium.. NEXT BECON MEETING – The next BECON meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, in Room 7111 of Rockledge 2 in Bethesda , Maryland . A preliminary agenda will be available about a week before the meeting. |
