BECON MEETING - July 28, 2005

Minutes

The NIH Bioengineering Consortium (BECON) met from 9 to 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 28, in Room 151 of Building 1 on the NIH Main campus in Bethesda , Maryland . Most of the meeting was devoted to a presentation and discussion on the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's (HHMI's) Janelia Farm Project. The following text is the minutes of this meeting.

Fifth BRP Grantee Meeting – The Fifth Bioengineering Research Partnership (BRP) Grantee Meeting is scheduled for August 15-16 (a Monday and Tuesday) at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center on Marinelli Road in North Bethesda . Plans are complete for the meeting.

Letters of Intent for September 20 BRP Application Deadline – A two-page summary of the BRP letters of intent received to date for the September 20 deadline was distributed at the meeting.

Featured Presentation – The Director of the HHMI Janelia Farm Project made a presentation on the background, status, and objectives of the effort. There was significant discussion during the presentation on a variety of issues associated with the project which is scheduled to be completed in mid-2006.

Next BECON Meeting – The next BECON meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, August 17, from 3 to 4:30 PM in Room 7111 of the Rockledge 2 Building in Bethesda , Maryland . An agenda will be available about a week before the meeting.
